Week 1 – 24/9/15

We watched:

Terra Nova – S1E01 “Genesis Part 1” (two part episode, we stopped about 42 minutes in): Police officer Jim Shannon and his wife Dr Elisabeth Shannon had an illegal child about 3 years ago. Population control officers come round to their house and discover young Zoe and, fearing for her safety, Jim attacks them. He gets arrested and is sent to prison. A couple of years later, Elisabeth is approached to travel through a rift in time to go to a parallel universe where dinosaurs roam the Earth. This sounds much nicer than the highly polluted dystopian future in which she currently lives. But she’s only allowed to take her two legal children with her, so she forms an elaborate plan to break her husband out of prison and smuggle him and the child through the portal. They get to Terra Nova successfully. Elisabeth must get to grips with strange new medicine, Commander Nathaniel Taylor assigns Jim to agriculture duty, Maddy hangs about, Zoe keeps wandering off, and Josh is off being rebellious and stroppy.

Hyperdrive – S1E01 “A Gift from the Glish”: Commander Henderson offends two ambassadors from the Glish by not allowing them to rub their genitals on his face. Not only do they refuse to set up business in Peterborough, they also release a dangerous creature onto the ship. First Officer York sets about trying to capture the creature. Henderson and Teal invite an old friend of Teal’s onto the ship in an attempt to convince him to come to Peterborough. Unfortunately, the Glish creature runs amok on the ship and kills several people. Teal’s friend does not wish to sign the agreement.

Young Justice – S1E01 “Independence Day”: Kid Flash, Aqualad, Speedy and Robin look forward to finally being invited into the Justice League HQ. However Speedy becomes angry when he discovers that they’re not actually being let into the Super Secret Space Base. He storms off, and then the Justice League members leave to go and save the day somewhere else. The other sidekicks decide to prove their worth by going to investigate a fire at Cadmus. They discover that Mark Desmond is creating an army of Genomorphs as weapons. They also discover a clone of Superman. He is under the control of Desmond and he attacks the sidekicks, defeating them easily.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch – S1E01 “Pilot”: Sabrina Spellman wakes up on her 16th birthday and her aunts tell her that she’s a witch. She doesn’t believe them and heads off to school, where she befriends Harvey and Jenny and makes an enemy of popular girl Libby. After school, Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda convince Sabrina that she is a witch with the help of Sabrina’s father (who is currently in the magical realm). Sabrina practices magic but appears to only be able to turn things into pineapples. The next day at school, she accidentally turns Libby into a pineapple. Her aunts manage to reverse the spell and Libby is saved. But Libby is incredibly confused and calls Sabrina a freak. Sabrina is worried that her reputation is ruined and she goes to appeal to the Witch Council to let her turn back time so she doesn’t use magic on Libby. Her request is denied. Aunt Hilda used to date Drell from the Council, so she goes to appeal on Sabrina’s behalf and her wish is granted. She redoes the day and Libby is never turned into a pineapple.

Week 9 – 19/3/15

Being Human – S2E04: George gets a job teaching English as a second language. Mitchell gets the idea to start running AA-style meetings for the vampires to help them give up blood. Annie is nearly dragged through a door  after trying to help a newly-dead drug addict, but is saved by a ghost from World War 2 named Sykes. George buys tranquilisers and a cage and manages to put the wolf to sleep for the duration of the full moon. However, he starts becoming incredibly angry and swearing uncontrollably. He begins dating a woman from the school where he works, but his odd behaviour is irritating the school’s principal. The principal scolds George and demands that he apologises for both his behaviour and for dating the woman, who the principal is interested in and often harasses. George attacks the principal in a fit of rage, and realises that the wolf is trying to get revenge because George subdued it. Annie convinces Sykes to help her fight the men from the other side. He teaches her to turn off televisions and radios with her mind, as the men use these to communicate. They then summon the men to the house and Annie is able to see through their tricks and shuts the door that appears for her. Mitchell convinces Ivan to join the meetings, to give them some credibility. However, Ivan realises that he cannot go without blood after so many years. Mitchell provides him with a girl to drink from, and Ivan agrees to pretend to have gone dry in order to allow the meetings to continue. Nina is placed into the pressure chamber by Kemp and the experiment begins. Nina’s nose begins to bleed and she feels unwell. Lucy puts a stop to the experiment, stating that Nina is necessary to get to George.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – S1E08 “Justice”: The crew stop for shore leave at a planet named Rubicun III. The residents of this planet look human and are very interested in love. A small shore party, including Wesley Crusher, beam down and are warmly welcomed. Wesley goes to play with the native children, and accidentally falls into a flower bed. Unfortunately, this flower bed was in the “Punishment Zone” for the day. Wesley is therefore sentenced to death. Meanwhile, Picard is confused by a strange ship near the planet that seems to be both there and not there. A floating orb from the ship appears and tells Picard to leave its children alone, before exchanging information with Data by binding briefly to his head. Picard beams down to see what can be done about Wesley. He discovers that the Edo (the natives of this planet) worship the strange ship as a god. The Edo say they cannot break their laws and allow Wesley to go free, as this would lead to chaos. Picard doesn’t want to go against the Prime Directive by rescuing Wesley, but eventually decides he must do so. He rescues Wesley and informs the strange ship, which then disappears.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – S1E11 “The Great Divide”: The Gaang must cross a huge canyon, with the help of an Earth Kingdom guide. Unfortunately, they are accompanied by two tribes that have been feuding for 100 years. The guide is injured by Canyon Crawlers, which were attracted by the food that both tribes brought into the canyon despite being told not to. Aang takes charge and instructs the tribes to walk on either side of the canyon, dividing by a wall of rock. Katara goes with one tribe, Sokka with the other and Aang goes down the middle along the wall. Katara and Sokka are told about the feud’s origins, but each tribe has a different story. In the end, the tribe’s must work together to lure in some Canyon Crawlers so that everyone can escape from the canyon. Aang makes up a lie about how he knew the people involved in the feud and states that it was all just a big misunderstanding. The tribes decide to try and get along from now on.

Week 8 – 12/3/15

Being Human – S2E03: An engaged couple have been attacked by a vampire in the park. The girl is dead, but her fiance is still alive though unconscious. Mitchell gathers the local vampires together and tries to convince them to stop killing or else they’ll end up revealing themselves. He tells them to not kill until he can sort some things out and leaves. Hugh is upset about Annie leaving (because he can no longer see her) so Annie convinces George to help her set Hugh back up with his ex, Kirsty. They find Kirsty, who clearly misses Hugh and George goes on a date with her. He intends to make it a terrible date so she’ll realise how great Hugh was, but it turns out she really loves German cinema and kebabs. Cara the vampire kills 2 girls outside a shopping centre. Mitchell speaks to the police chief who agrees to cooperate with him in exchange for money. Mitchell speaks to the coroner, who still refuses to help. The police chief gave Mitchell some “leverage”, pictures of the coroner’s grandchildren going about their daily lives. Mitchell gives the pictures to the coroner and promises nothing will happen to the children if he cooperates. The coroner lets Mitchell know about the 2 girls being killed, so Mitchell calls together the vampires. He discovers that Cara killed them and locks her away. George tells Kirsty that he’s too heartbroken from Nina to pursue a relationship, and Kirsty says that she too is heartbroken. George convinces her to contact Hugh so that they can get back together. Mitchell goes out for a drink with Lucy, his doctor friend, but is very quiet. She gets angry at him and leaves. The boy from the park wakes up, but the police chief has him killed. He makes it look like a suicide and closes the case. Mitchell and George discuss the funeral parlour where the vampires hang out, and the secret religious organisation listen in. However, George picks up the bug along with his glasses and washes it down the sink, thinking it’s dirt. Mitchell heads to the funeral parlour and makes an example of Cara to convince the other vampires to behave. He takes her down to the underground cave and smashes out her teeth. He then seals the entrance to the cave and leaves her there. George receives a phone call from Nina. She says goodbye to him and that she loves him. We see that she is with the old religious man (Kemp) and also with Lucy, who it turns out works with the anti-supernatural organisation as well.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – S5E08 “Unification -Part 2”: Spock tells Picard about his mission to re-unify the Vulcans and the Romulans. There is an underground movement of Romulan people that supports peace. Spock goes to speak with the Romulan Proconsul, who is surprisingly in favour of re-unification. Riker and rest of the crew find the ex-wife of the pilot whose ship they exploded. She tells them about his business partner, a Ferengi who frequents the bar where she works. They hang around until the Ferengi arrives and threaten him until he reveals that they took the stolen Vulcan ship parts to a sector near Romulus. Data hacks into the Romulan computers and discovers a coded message reading “1400”. He conveys this to Spock, who recognises it to mean 1400 hours, the time he is due to broadcast a message with the Proconsul about re-unification and peace. Pardek betrays the group and Spock, Picard and Data are captured by Sela (Tasha Yar’s half-Romulan daughter from an alternate timeline). Sela explains that stolen Vulcan ships will be filled with Romulan soldiers and sent to Vulcan, disguised as a peace envoy. Spock refuses to broadcast a message to the Vulcans to tell them that the ships are a peace envoy, so Sela says she’ll use her holographic Spock. While she is out of the room, Data reprograms the hologram machine to create Riker and a couple of Starfleet soldiers, as well as a fake wall. Picard and Spock overpower Sela and the Romulan soldiers while they are distracted by the holograms. Spock broadcasts a message saying the Vulcan ships must be stopped, and the Enterprise blocks the ships. A cloaked Romulan warbird appears and destroys the ships, killing all the troops rather than letting them be captured. Spock opts to stay on Romulus and continue his mission, and he and Picard mind-meld.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – S1E10 “Jet”: The Gaang meets Jet and his group of freedom fighters, who live in a treehouse in the forest. Katara quickly becomes infatuated with Jet, but Sokka is suspicious of him. Sokka is even more suspicious when he witnesses Jet and friends mug an old man, but Jet convinces Aang and Katara that the man was a Fire Nation assassin. Jet convinces Aang and Katara to waterbend and fill the reservoir, supposedly to help put out forest fires. Sokka discovers that Jet’s real plan is to blow the dam and flood the nearby town, drowning both the Fire Nation soldiers and the innocent Earth Kingdom villagers. Katara and Aang realise too late what Jet’s plan really is. Katara freezes Jet to a tree and they all watch as the village is flooded. Sokka appears on Appa and reveals that he managed to evacuate the village, earning the Fire Nation’s trust thanks to the old man from earlier vouching for him.

Week 7 – 5/3/15

Being Human – S2E02: Mitchell is chatting with his doctor friend when she goes to declare a man dead. Mitchell recognises the man as Dan, the human lover of a vampire named Carl. Mitchell once lived with Carl and Dan in the 80’s, when Carl was trying to help him give up blood. Annie is enjoying chatting to Saul at the pub, but he begins to hear televisions speaking to him. Terry Wogan informs him that Saul and Annie would make a wonderful couple. George is confronted by Ivan, who asks him how he made Daisy feel again. Carl tells Mitchell that he lost control and killed Dan, and Mitchell agrees to help him avoid the police. Herrick is no longer around to cover up vampire-related deaths, and the coroner that used to be paid by the vampires to keep quiet is now refusing to help Mitchell. Saul tells Annie that he had a bad car accident and was dead for 6 minutes. He says that he saw a corridor, and Annie shared that she has also seen the corridor. Annie invites Saul out for the afternoon, much to the disappointment of Hugh, her boss. Annie and Saul go to Saul’s house, but he hears voices from the television again and tries to assault her. She teleports away. Mitchell is angry that she teleported in front of someone, but George tries to comfort her. Hugh comes round to see her and admits he has feelings for her. Mitchell hatches a plan to help Carl escape, and gets George to help him. Carl breaks into the flat he shared with Dan (now a crime scene) and pretends to have committed suicide. Mitchell and George head to the hospital, where they discover that Saul has been drink-driving and has been in an accident. Mitchell helps Carl escape from the morgue by hitting the fire alarm. George is confronted by Nina, who is angry that he’s helping Carl, a murderer. Annie is left alone with Saul, who dies. Saul’s ghost appears, as does a door. The radio tells Saul to drag Annie through the door and he will be allowed to live. The voices are angry that Annie did not go through her door when it appeared for her. Annie manages to stop Saul dragging her through, so Saul goes instead. Mitchell and George hand Carl over to Ivan, who has arranged for him to leave the country and begin life with a new identity. Nina leaves the house overnight because she doesn’t want to become like George and Mitchell. She tells Mitchell that people like them shouldn’t be out in the streets. The old religious man and his team are now listening into the house and discover Nina’s hatred for being a werewolf. The old man speaks to her at the station. Annie heads to work, but finds that she is now invisible to Hugh.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – S5E07 “Unification – Part 1”: Picard is informed that Ambassador Spock has been spotted on Romulus and may have defected. He goes to visit Spock’s father, Sarek, who is dying. Sarek and Spock fell out many years ago, but Sarek still loves his son. Sarek tells Picard that Spock may be visiting Pardek, a Romulan Ambassador. Pardek and Spock met many years ago and hoped to bring peace between Vulcans and Romulans. Picard requests a cloaked ship from the Klingons. The Klingons fly him and Data to Romulus. They receive word of Sarek’s death as they travel. Picard and Data dress as Romulans to try and blend in. They are spotted by Pardek’s men and brought into a cave, where they are met by Pardek and Spock. Meanwhile, Riker and the rest of the crew are investigating the wreckage of a Vulcan ship, the T’Pau. They visit the depot where it is supposed to be stored, but find it to be missing. They also find another ship missing, but the second ship has cargo beamed to it every day. The Enterprise hides in the depot, and an unknown ship appears around cargo-beaming time. Riker hails the ship but they open fire. Riker opens fire in return, but the enemy ship’s cargo is volatile and the ship explodes.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – S1E09 “The Waterbending Scroll”: Katara tries to teach Aang waterbending. To her annoyance, he learns it with ease. He ends up washing away the group’s supplies, so they head to a nearby port to buy more. Iroh has lost the lotus tile he needs for his game, so he and Zuko head to the same port. The Gaang head onto a pirate ship, where they see a waterbending scroll for sale. However, it is far out of their price range. While Aang haggles, Katara steals the scroll. The pirates chase the group but they manage to escape. Aang and Sokka are angry at Katara for stealing the scroll, but Aang says they might as well use it now that they have it. Katara struggles to learn the water whip, which Aang learns easily. She loses her temper with him and they decide to put the scroll away. Zuko and Iroh meet the pirates, and agree to help them get the scroll back from the Avatar and his friends. Katara takes the scroll to practice waterbending during the night, giving away her location to the pirates and Zuko. The trio are captured, but Sokka manages to turn the firebenders and the pirates against each other. A fight ensures, and Sokka, Katara and Aang manage to steal the pirate’s boat. They come to a waterfall, but are rescued by Appa. Iroh discovers that his lotus tile was in his sleeve all along.

Week 6 – 26/6/15

Being Human – S2E01: Nina is now living in the house with George, Annie and Mitchell, but she and George are barely interacting. While at the pub with Mitchell, George is attacked by a pair of vampires and he and Mitchell chase them to a car park. George confronts the female vampire (Daisy), who seduces and kisses him. Mitchell speaks to the male (Ivan) and they discuss the fact that vampires will keep attacking George because he killed Herrick. Nina tells Annie about the werewolf scratch on her arm, but hasn’t told George yet. The next night, George goes to the forest and Annie accompanies Nina to the room under the hospital. George kills a stag while in wolf form. It turns out Nina has been infected and she turns into a wolf for the night. Meanwhile, the old man who previously interviewed Owen is performing an experiment on another werewolf. The old man and another man are trying to see if they can cure a werewolf using pressure. This results in the werewolf’s blood being forced out of his body, and he dies. Nina and Annie go home and see Mitchell, who revealed he knew about Nina. George is woken up in the forest by Daisy, and ends up having sex with her. He returns home and has a fight with Nina, accusing her of making everything about her and only staying with George because she’s sleeping with Mitchell. Nina reveals to George that he infected her. When they next encounter each other at the hospital, George cries and apologises and is wracked with guilt. During the course of these couple of days, Annie has got a job at a pub. She invites her first customer to use the phone at the house, as there isn’t one in the pub. Mitchell and George also arrive at the house, as does a man who says that there’s a gas leak in the street. The entire street is evacuated, and is served tea/coffee from the house and alcohol from the pub. It turns out that there isn’t a gas leak and it’s just the old man and his team trying to take a look round the house. The old man wanders through every room chanting passages from the bible.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – S1E25 “Conspiracy”: The crew are on their way to Pacifica to have a holiday. Unfortunately, they must take a detour as Picard receives a secret message from his friend Captain Walker, requesting a meeting. Picard meets Walker on a deserted planet, and Walker reveals his fears that something is wrong in Starfleet. He claims strange orders are being issued and that the people he speaks to don’t seem to remember their own pasts. Picard returns to the Enterprise, but as the ship leaves the planet the crew see that Walker’s ship has been destroyed. On Picard’s orders, Data searches through a database of Starfleet orders and does find them to be unusual. The Enterprise flies to Earth to meet with Starfleet Command. Admirals Savar and Arron invite Picard and Riker to dinner, and Admiral Quinn requests a tour of the Enterprise. Riker stays on board the ship to show Quinn around, and Picard beams down. Quinn shows Riker an alien parasite and then attacks him. Riker manages to call security but is knocked out. Worf and Geordi manage to incapacitate Quinn and call Dr Crusher. Riker and Quinn are taken to sick bay, and Beverly discovers a small gill sticking out of Quinn’s neck. She contacts Picard and warns him about the alien parasites. Picard chats to the admirals on Earth and then joins them for dinner. When the lids are lifted from the dinner bowls, he sees that the meal is some kind of worms. Everyone else round the table starts eating the worms and he realises they have been infected with the parasites. Riker arrives at the meal, but has a fake gill sticking out from his neck. He joins the admirals at the table. The parasites reveal that they have taken over the brains of many members of Starfleet. Just before Riker takes a bite of the worms, he pulls out his phaser and he and Picard shoot the admirals. The parasites leave the bodies and return to the mother parasite. Picard and Riker follow them and destroy the mother parasite.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – S1E08 “Avatar Roku (Winter Solstice Part 2)”: The Gaang travel to the Fire Nation, with Zuko following them. They reach a Fire Nation blockade led by Commander Zhao, which catapults fireballs at them. They manage to dodge the attacks and pass the blockade. Zuko’s ship is damaged but Zhao lets him pass, with the intention of following him to the Avatar’s destination. Aang reaches the temple but is attacked by the Fire Sages, who are now loyal to the Fire Nation rather than the Avatar. A friendly Fire Sage helps the group escape and get up to Avatar Roku’s chamber. The group trick the Fire Sages into opening the door to the room, and Aang dashes in. Zuko arrives and captures Sokka and Katara, and then Zhao arrives. Aang speaks to Avatar Roku, who tells him about Sozin’s comet. This comet will come at the end of summer and it’s power will make the Fire Nation undefeatable if Aang doesn’t stop them. Aang leaves the chamber and Avatar Roku’s spirit helps him defeat the Fire Nation soldiers and destroy the island. Aang, Sokka and Katara then fly away on Appa.
